It’s been a while now that 1080p has been the standard display for both televisions and computer monitors. That is all about to change with 4K displays becoming more popular and easily accessible. The 4K display has about four times the number of pixels of our current standard displays resulting in a huge difference in picture quality. More and more stores are stocking 4K displays and prices have been steadily dropping. Before deciding to make the switch to a 4K display for your television or computer monitor, consider how useful one would currently be to you.
While 4K televisions are a little pointless in having one right now as no TV station is transmitting for them and no DVD or Blu-rays are being made for it either, 4K monitors for your computer is something that you can get a lot out of. Even though 4K monitors are a new technology and therefore content is generally not made to be viewed on them, there are still plenty of things that you can use them for.
Using a 4K monitor shouldn’t impact on how you generally use your PC. Surfing the web, viewing photos, word processing etc should be much the same, just the resolution of your monitor will change allowing you have a greater workspace to play with. Having a 4K monitor instead of a standard one will allow you view a wide range of different subjects from images, videos and articles and will allow you utilize more tabs than you would have been able to before.
Having a 4K monitor may allow you to get more work done as well. If you have a 30+ inch monitor with a 4K resolution, the space you will have to view multiple screens on the same monitor and will handle multitasking better than you could have with any other monitor.
Gaming is most likely the biggest thing that you will notice an improvement with on a 4K monitor. While games are still not being created to be viewed on a 4K monitor if you run it at the highest resolution and play them in windowed mode, the improvement you will have in graphics will be worth it. It also boasts the ability to be able to multitask while gaming as well. Running games on a 4K monitor does require a lot more video memory, so you may need to consider upgrading your computer beforehand so that you can get the best quality from your 4K monitor.
Photography professionals and enthusiasts alike will get a lot out of having a 4K monitor. It will give you the ability to view and edit high definition photos and videos closer to their actual resolutions. A 4K monitor will be able to deliver pixel density and photo clarity on a much larger scale than other monitors will be able to provide. Once you start editing on a 4K monitor, it will be nearly impossible to go back to lower PPI monitors.
Before purchasing a 4K monitor, you will need to check to make sure that your PC will be able to handle it. Checking your video and graphics card will be extremely important as a 4K monitor will be demanding on those.
If you currently use your computer for the above things and have a good graphics and video card, there is no reason why you shouldn’t upgrade to a 4K monitor.
